to apply for the job
The city of Västerås has removed the personal letter from the application process. We do this to achieve a better and fairer recruitment process. When you submit your application, you will be asked to answer a number of questions that will be an important part of our selection work.
By creating trusting relationships and working closely with both students and staff, you contribute to a safe and inclusive school environment, while making a difference in the school’s preventive and health-promoting work.
We are now looking for a school counselor for Dingtuna School for a fixed-term employment until 2026.
Your tasks
As a school counselor, you are an important part of our student health team and contribute daily to creating safe and good conditions for students' learning and well-being. You meet students both individually and in groups, hold supportive and guiding conversations, and collaborate closely with both staff and guardians to find solutions that make a difference in everyday life.
You play a central role in our preventive and health-promoting work. This means that you work both with general measures and more targeted support measures, participate in certain investigations, and use your profession in the school’s systematic quality work. The role also includes being present during breaks, where you build relationships and strengthen well-being and safety in students' everyday lives. You teach subjects such as MVP and “Stop my body,” where you provide students with important tools to understand boundaries, respect, and social responsibility.
As a counselor, you are also an important contact in collaboration with external actors such as BUP, social services, and family centers. By guiding staff, analyzing learning environments, and working closely with students, you are a significant part of creating a school where everyone can develop and feel good.
Your qualifications
We are looking for someone who, with confidence and commitment, wants to be an important part of students' everyday lives. With your academic degree as a social worker or behavioral scientist and experience working with children and young people, you meet students where they are and build trusting relationships that create safety and development.
You enjoy collaborating closely with both colleagues and guardians and are attentive to different perspectives and needs. Your commitment to each student's development and well-being permeates your working method, and you provide professional and caring support in both small and large matters. If you have previously worked as a school counselor or in the earlier years of primary school, we see it as a positive.
We offer
As a school counselor with us, you participate in joint method days together with the city's other counselors, receive regular supervision in psychosocial work, and are part of a collegial forum where you can share experiences, raise cases, and develop working methods. As a new counselor in Västerås city, you will also receive an experienced mentor who supports you in settling into the role and feeling secure in both the assignment and our operations.
At Dingtuna School, we work based on our values KRAM (Camaraderie, Respect, Responsibility, and Courage), which permeate our everyday life and form the basis for both learning and good life skills. We are an F–6 school close to nature and rural surroundings, which creates a pleasant and calm environment for both students and staff. We think innovatively, dare to try ideas, and continuously develop our operations – and we hope you want to be a part of it. About 280 students attend our school, and we have 36 dedicated employees who together create a warm and welcoming school.
Here, you become part of something bigger! With warmth and respect, we show initiative in both big and small matters. We live our values in our interactions with each other and those we serve. Every day, all year round, we ensure that Västerås functions. Together with your approximately 11,500 colleagues around the city, you will have Sweden's most important job.
